Construction firm RG Carter are hoping to build on years of dedicated charitable support after becoming the first team to enter Chariots of Fire 2015- celebrating the company’s 17th year taking part.
The speedy team were the first to sign up for the event, which takes place on Sunday 20th September, when registrations opened last month. Six employees from the company, which has offices across East Anglia, will be taking on the relay race.
The official charity for this year’s Chariots of Fire event is East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and funds raised will be used to support their True Colours Symptom Management Team which is a team of specialist nurses. They deliver care and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ensuring all eligible life-threatened children, young people and their families have access to vital support and advice when they need it most.
Steve Allen, Contracts Manager at the R G Carter Cambridge Office, manages the company’s team every year. Steve said: “R G Carter has entered Chariots of Fire since 1998 so this will be our 17th year of taking part. The event is a great day to be part of, particularly with the route through the centre of Cambridge and the iconic college buildings which makes it such a memorable run. Employees who come along to support always end up wanting to take part in the next year! “We always have a huge competitive spirit within our teams and try to improve on our finishing position year on year. Our best result yet was 25th place – but I’m confident 2015 could be the year we break that record! “R G Carter have been great supporters of EACH many years and are entering a whole company team into the charity’s Ride for Life event in Thetford Forest in June. It’s great to support such a worthy local cause and the wonderful work that EACH does across East Anglia.”

Hewitsons Charitable Trust trustee and race director Charles Hewitson said “We’re delighted that companies such as R G Carter, who have been participants at Chariots of Fire for many years, have again entered a team into this year’s event. Well done to them for being the very first team to enter in 2015!”
Denise Fenn, EACH Fundraising Development Manager, said: “R G Carters are long-term supporters of EACH and it’s great to see them taking part in Chariots of Fire. This well known event will help us raise the much-needed funds to support our specialist team of nurses and raise awareness of the care and support that EACH offers. We have challenged every team that enters of raising a minimum of £400 to support this vital service providing care to children and young people with life-threatening conditions and supporting the families who need it. We look forward to seeing the R G Carter team on the day to cheer them on!”
