Charities on the starting blocks for Chariots 2010

The 2010 Chariots of Fire charity relay race will take place on Sunday 19 September and local charities are encouraged to apply to be the beneficiary of the funds raised.

The annual Cambridge event sees thousands of runners race through the historic city centre and colleges, all in aid of raising money for a particular charity.

The event is organised and sponsored by leading law firm, Hewitsons and is backed by media partners, The Cambridge News. Race director, Charles Hewitson, said, “The event has now become a local institution and raises not only money but a huge amount of awareness amongst the academic and business community, for the chosen charity.” “All local charities are considered in the application process and over the years the event has supported charities such as Arthur Rank Hospice, Papworth Hospital Trust, East Anglian Children’s Hospices and East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

“The 2009 event was held in aid of Cam-mind, Cambridge’s oldest mental health charity and donations are still pouring in.” If you would like to apply, download the charity application form from the website, which specifies any requirements. You can also read about the event history and view news and photos from the day.

All applications should be submitted by Monday 11 January. For further information, contact Hazel Kraus at or on 01223 461155.
