Cambridge University colleges will once again generously open their gates and grounds to Chariots of Fire participants on the 21st September.
The route for this distinctive charity relay race will guide runners through the streets and colleges of Cambridge, passing through Trinity College, Clare College and King’s College.
Each year the college community support Chariots by entering teams to compete for the highly coveted Inter-Collegiate Cup. Within this specialist category all six runners must be students or employees of the college they are representing.
Charles Hewitson, race director for Chariots of Fire said, “Every year the runners give us positive feedback on the route. They feel privileged to be able to run through the colleges. The route is stunning and as a result I think it spurs you on to the finish line. We are always deeply grateful to the colleges for their continued support towards Chariots, which helps bring everyone together by raising money for worthwhile causes, this year the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity”.
Last year saw ‘King’s College A’ team win the Inter-Collegiate Cup from Churchill College’s ‘Winston’s Winner’ who previously held the cup for three consecutive years. Team leader for King’s College A team, Julian Griffin, said “The competition enthused the King's team last year and it was great to see we had two teams enter the event consisting of fellows, students and staff all running alongside each other. We're certain to be back this year to retain the cup!”
The race starts at 9.30am from Queens’ Green, and team leaders are required to register their teams from 7.30am in the registration marquee. Race instructions are available on the Chariots website www.chariots-of-fire.co.uk/resource Team spaces are still available, but are filling up fast.
