Over the course of its history, Chariots of Fire has raised nearly £1 million for a variety of worthwhile local charities, with tens of thousands of pounds being raised each year.
For any charity wishing to apply to be the official recipient charity of monies raised through the 2015 race, scheduled on Sunday 20th September, there is still time. Simply visit http://www.chariots-of-fire.co.uk/charities/charity-applications/ and download the application form.
The deadline for charity applications is Tuesday 20th January at 5pm and the selected official recipient charity will be formally announced in May 2015. Organisers of the event, Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charitable arm of law firm Hewitsons LLP, never imagined that from the initial idea, 24 years ago, almost £1 million pounds would have been raised, a milestone they intend to exceed this year.
Fully established in the city's event calendar, Chariots of Fire has over the years supported a wide variety of worthy causes and charities. Previous charity recipients include Barnardo's, Emmaus, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Home-Start Cambridge, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice, Cam Sight, Papworth Trust and most recently The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. And it's not just the funds raised through Chariots that benefit the charity; there is a genuine legacy benefit from the exposure the event provides them.
Race Director, Charles Hewitson said: “I have been pleased to witness the benefits provided by Chariots to the selected charity each year. The continued level of support extended to each charity by the Cambridge Community and the generosity of each of the Colleges and our event suppliers is further testament to the appeal of Chariots. I would recommend any charities interesting in applying to do so. It is such an enjoyable event and there is a real sense of camaraderie on the day”.
