Applications for charities wishing to be the official Chariots of Fire recipient charity in 2022 are now open.
Throughout its 29-year history, the Cambridge charitable race has raised more than £1.49m for a multitude of good causes – this year’s race has so far raised £42,565 for East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).
Next year’s race, due to take place on Sunday 18 September 2022, will continue the tradition of raising significant amounts of money for the official recipient charity. To apply, charities can download an application form here. The deadline for charity applications is Tuesday 11 January 2022 at 5pm and the selected official recipient charity will be formally announced in March 2022.
Chariots of Fire is an established event in the city’s calendar and is organised by HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charitable arm of law firm HCR Hewitsons. Over the years, the race has supported a wide variety of worthy causes and charities. In addition to raising valuable funds, each official charity has benefitted from the exposure Chariots of Fire provides them.
Charles Hewitson, race director, said: “It is great to see how the money raised by Chariots benefits the selected charity each year. The continued level of support extended to each charity by the Cambridge community, and the generosity of each of the colleges and our event suppliers, is further testament to the appeal of Chariots. I would recommend any charities interested in applying to do so.”
Following the 2021 race, all funds currently being raised are in support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and the funding of their dedicated CPR training team. EAAA are tasked to respond to any kind of life-changing or life-threatening emergency; cardiac arrests, which can happen anywhere and at any time, are the most common type of incident that the emergency crews attend.
Through their specialised training team, the charity is dedicated in their mission to teach as many people as possible life-saving CPR skills to ensure that more people survive a cardiac arrest.
