HCR Hewitsons is welcoming charities to apply to become the official charity of the 2025 Chariots of Fire relay race.

The application deadline is 5pm Friday, 15th November.

Launched in 1992, the charity race follows in the heroic footsteps of the famous film – Chariots of Fire – which tells the story of Harold Abrahams, a Cambridge runner, and his bid to win a gold medal in the 1924 Olympics.

Over the last 32 years Chariots of Fire has grown in both the number of participants and money raised. It has become a ‘date in the diary’ for both competitive and fun runners who take part and enjoy the iconic 1.7-mile route around Cambridge and its colleges. Since launching the race, Chariots of Fire has raised over £1.5m for charity.

In 2024 HCR Hewitsons partnered with RunThrough to deliver the 2024 event sponsored by AstraZeneca, with Magpas Air Ambulance as the official charity partner. Olympic athlete, and gold medallist at both the World Championships and European Championships, Derek Redmond was the race starter. Over 1,700 runners took part in the 2024 relay course, with hundreds more cheering on from the sidelines.

Over £43,000 was raised from the 2024 Chariots of Fire for Magpas Air Ambulance. This amount supports them to continue to provide vital medical care to patients across Cambridgeshire and beyond, saving lives and keeping families together.

The 2025 Chariots of Fire race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 21 September, and like each year, will raise significant funds for the official charity recipient.

Colin Jones, Partner at HCR Hewitsons commented “This year’s race was one of the largest we’ve experienced – Chariots of Fire never fails to showcase the spirit and generosity of the Cambridge community. I’d encourage all of the city’s fantastic charities to apply.

“We work hard to ensure the recipient receives as much money as possible each year – and the level of support we receive from the Cambridge colleges and our event suppliers further shows how much the race is valued across the community.”

Further information on how to apply please contact Jolene Brooks, who will be able to provide the 2025 charity application form.

Charity applications will be reviewed by the Trustees, and the official 2025 charity partner will be announced in December.
