Ready. Steady. Go….. Register your team for Chariots of Fire 2022

The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity (ARHC) is limbering up for this year’s Chariots of Fire after being selected as the official recipient charity for this year’s race on Sunday 18th September.

The race is one of much celebration for both the charity and the organiser as Chariots of Fire celebrates its 30th anniversary and the ARHC celebrates its 40th.

All sponsorship monies raised from the race will go towards the ARHC, who plan to use the funds raised through Chariots of Fire 2022 to help support the expansion of the charity’s retail business.

The expansion will involve a new retail hub and a fleet of vans, which will be needed to support its existing five shops and 10 planned new outlets. The charity project the impact of this growth will see their retail income grow to £2.3million in year five. Creating vital funds that will help keep the charity’s services running and ensuring the continued delivery of their outstanding care.

The charity, with the support of Chariots of Fire, have set a target of £71,000, the amount needed to open and operate a charity shop for one year. Charity shops are not only crucial in raising essential income for much needed hospice and end of life care, they are also integral in helping to increase awareness of their work whilst engaging people in the communities in which they are situated.

Donna Talbot, director of fundraising and communications for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity said “We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected as the 2022 beneficiary. Chariots of Fire is an iconic event and after two very difficult years, we can’t wait to celebrate this special event in person with our colleagues, volunteers and community.

We have been fortunate to have been involved on two occasions previously and we plan to make this year the best yet. We’d like to encourage all those who have taken part in the past to sign up once again and we look forward to welcoming people who are yet to experience this incredible race and fundraiser, so that together we can make every moment count for our patients and their loved ones.”

Chariots of Fire is the regions longest running charitable relay race and is organised by the HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charity established and supported by HCR Hewitsons.

Wendy Von Niebel, Trustee of HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust said “The incredible work of the ARHC in delivering their outstanding end-of-life care cannot be overstated. Many people across the region have a personal link to Arthur Rank, either knowing someone that volunteers for the hospice or having once had a loved one in their care. It is this personal connection that has made the ARHC a much-valued institution in the region.

With this year being our 30th anniversary and ARHC’s 40th we are aiming to bring Chariots of Fire to the forefront of the events calendar, bringing together the thousands of runners to Queen’s Green this September and raising as much money as we can for Arthur Rank.”

The race takes place on Sunday 18th September and starts and ends on Queens’ Green. Each of the six runners per team will follow a picturesque and unique 1.7-mile route through some of Cambridge’s historic city centre and two world renowned Cambridge University Colleges, over the Cam and along the Backs, before passing on the baton to the next runner at Queens’ Green.
